Local Charity Seeks Volunteer Mentors – Cirencester and South Cotswolds

  • The Door Reg Charity 1131919 is looking for new members of it’s volunteer team.
  • Full training given – courses start in April
  • Volunteering as a mentor can be incredibly rewarding
  • No experience required! Just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

The Door, a local youth charity based in Stroud, is bringing some of it’s vital mental health support services to Cirencester and the South Cotswolds. The Door has been supporting young people and their families for over 30 years unlocking potential and opening opportunity. Thanks in no small part to a team of amazing volunteer mentors.

Demand for mentors in and around Cirencester has grown considerably in recent months so, The Door are recruiting volunteers ahead of their next training course starting in April.

Intensive Support Team Manager Shona Ross says:

“I started at The Door as a volunteer so I know first-hand just how rewarding it can be.  It’s an incredible way to give of your time. You don’t need to be an expert in anything, simply you need to have enough time to complete the training course and then 1-2 hours a week once you are matched with a young person or parent who has reached out for help. Then my team will support you and your mentee every step of the way. We certainly don’t expect you to volunteer in isolation (far from it in fact).”

Kayla (not her real name) aged 16 has a mentor from The Door. She said:

“The Door’s helped me become more confident in myself. It has helped my physical and my mental wellbeing. It’s made me, me. The people there, the friends and that I’ve made and the members of staff, they’ve all helped me. They, really help the way that I think about myself and others around me.”

Shona continues:

“Whether you choose to mentor young people or parents, It is an absolute privilege to be a part of someone’s journey in this way, by offering time, space and safety for that person to explore what’s possible, great change can unfold (and it’s always a joy to see).”

“Any member of The Door team will be happy to talk more about volunteering with us (we don’t need much of an excuse to share the passion we have for our work) and we can be contacted for more information through our website www.thedoor.org.uk/volunteer or by calling us on 01453 756745.  What have you got to lose by finding out more?”
