One year on from her training in London (Funded by The David Brooke Charity), Sandra tells us how The Door’s delivery of the Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme) is going.

Since qualifying top of her class last summer, Sandra has delivered three well attended Triple P courses with another on the horizon.

The courses have all been extremely successful with a wide range of parents attending, from single mums and dads to conflicting co-parents and couples.

Thanks to funding from The Santander Foundation we have been able to run our first ever daytime course which made the course much more accessible to parents who can’t afford to be away from home in the evenings.

Sandra says ‘Triple P offers parents so many opportunities, being able to share their own experience of parenting and their experiences of their young people offers them comfort and insight as well asĀ giving them a platform to see themselves and their children in a new light.

The course equips parents with new strategies and tools to approach their future as parents differently to how they have acted before.

Parents attending the course have reported major changes in their relationships and atmosphere at home even impacting on the activities they do as a family.”

One parent said:

“We have learned new strategies and how to manage rewards and consequences. We even have a chart for the washing up which the children find quite exciting so it gets done properly 90% of the time which is amazing as we’ve gone from nothing! We are now beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel, we really thought it would be impossible to turn things around in our household but we’ve learnt a way, thanks to our family support worker. We as parents have grown in self awareness and confidence and our children are starting to change their way of thinking. We really need and appreciate the help we have been given by Sandra and what’s so great is that we don’t feel at all judged! We still have a good way to go but now we feel it’s reachable”

Sandra said “For me it’s a great course to run, I’m always so proud of what the parents are able to achieve and their willingness to take risks, to take the plunge into the unknown, having the self belief and hope that they can make the change they so desire. It’s the trust and belief in themselves and their families that really stands out for me.”

Sandra will continue to work with families, staying beside them on their parenting journey for as long as they need, whether that’s just a single meeting at the end of the course, a more in depth course of 1:1 support, introducing them to a support group of their peers or even whole family work through The Door’s Family Face Time and support
