Hi Claudia

Hello

So let’s start with what you role is at The Door?

Ok, I am The Door’s Business Administration Apprentice.

And what does that mean?

I never know how to explain it, I do so many little things it’s hard to summarise. Every day is different. I do general office things like answering the phone and posting as well as supporting the youthwork team with their admin. I also run the charity shop’s social media, do some design work and generally help the rest of the team.

Certainly sounds like we are keeping you busy! What is your favourite part of your role so far?

I think it’s two things. Firstly I really like the creative things I get to do like designing posters, social media or coming up with resources for the youthworkers.

Secondly I love being able to get involved with some of the youthwork activities and seeing the young people we support. I visit youth centres every month to collect photos and videos which is really fun. I also help with the youth voice board. It’s great to see the young people building connections with each other and be able to give them a chance to have their voices heard and know that their opinion matters.

Excellent! What about the more challenging aspects of your role?

I think that has to be prioritizing what to do and when to do it. Because there are so many small bits and bobs to do it can be difficult to balance things and ensure they don’t slip through the cracks. But I think I’m doing ok at getting things done in the right order.

I’m sure you are!

So what are you looking forward to at the moment?

I’m half way through my apprenticeship now and I’m still getting to try new things, so I’m looking forward to supporting some of the other departments. I also still have plenty of time to try new skills and experiment with different jobs to see which I enjoy the most.

Plenty of learning still to do.

Exactly!

Now onto to the not so sensible questions…

Ok

If there was only one food you could eat for the rest of your life what would it be?

Oh I don’t know, I don’t even know what my favourite food is! I would say chocolate but that’s not a great idea. Probably pasta.

Maybe chocolate pasta?

Maybe…

What about Sports do you follow any teams?

No, I don’t watch any sport really, but I did play netball for most of the time I was at school.

And finally, do you have a quote you would like to share?

‘Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans’ – John Lennon

Thank you
