Hello!
Please could you tell us a bit about your role at The Door.
Ok, I am a charity shop assistant at The Door Shop, which is at the top of the High Street in Stroud. I take donations, serve on the till, keep the shop tidy and look after our lovely volunteers.
Plenty to keep you busy!
Yes!
So how did you end up at The Door Shop?
I started off as a volunteer, I actually applied to do youthwork to start off with, but after talking to the team we decided the shop would be a better place to start and I’m really pleased we did.
The shop sounded fun, and now I’ve been here for over a year and I confirm we have lots of fun!
So what is your favourite part of your role?
I think meeting the customers is great, and catching up with the regulars. I also love having a laugh with the team. They are all so friendly.
We always have a good guess at the time tunnel on the radio too.
Ah yes of course – you have a background in radio so you must know all the songs!
Yes I volunteered on Hospital radio for quite a while before I moved to Stroud.
If those are the best bits, what are the worst bits of your role?
Nothing really, I love it here. Even if a customer is struggling to find what they want or asking lots of questions, I don’t mind because I like helping people.
If I had to say one thing it would have to be doing the bins!
Well no one really likes that job do they!
Is there anything you are looking forward to at the moment?
I’m looking forward to the summer and when town get’s a bit busier. It’s often quite quiet in the winter. I’m also looking forward to helping at some more fundriaisng events like the board games café and street collections. I was one of Father Christmas’ helpers last year too!
Brilliant! Now onto the slightly less serious questions we like to ask.
Firstly if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
Easy lasagna – it’s my favourite!
And finally what about sport teams, who do you follow?
I’ve rooted for Chelsea as long as I can remember, or closer to home it has to be FGR.
Perfect thank you very much.
Thanks!
