Youth Charity has Spring in its step!

Local Stroud and Cotswold youth charity, The Door needs you to step up this spring, get on your bike or dive in across the District and take part in their annual 100kinMay Challenge.

Participants are challenged to walk, run, jog, cycle or swim their way to 100km in the 31 days of May all while getting sponsored to raise much-needed funds for The Door.

The charity provides vital mental health support to 11-25 year olds and their families across the district and relies on generous donations to stay open and ensure that their mentoring, youthwork and family support services are accessible to all.

One young person supported by The Door said: “Mentoring saved me. If it wasn’t for The Door, I don’t know where I would be right now. The support my mentor has given me has made such a difference and has boosted my confidence so much that I have been able to stick with college and pursue my dream job. Mentoring has really helped me with expressing my feelings and getting everything off my chest. Mentoring is like having a friend who you can trust.

Operations Manager Anne Townsend (Right) says: “Taking part in 100kinMay is a great way to fundraise for The Door. You can take the challenge at your own pace in your own time and fit it in around your week. Whether you walk 3km a day, cycle 10km each weekend or a combination, knowing that each step, stride or pedal is helping others is a great motivator to get up and get out. It’s also the perfect excuse to go out and explore in our beautiful part of world, to find new routes or visit new places. Regular exercise is also great for your mental health, so while you are fundraising to support others, you could be helping yourself too.”

Volunteer at The Door Shop, Rachael (Centre) says: “I really enjoyed taking part in 100KinMay Last year, it helped me get over my fear of walking and was actually fun! The support from the other people taking part was great and I can’t wait to take part again this year and raise even more for The Door!”

As part of the challenge participants will be able to join Facebook and WhatsApp groups to stay in touch with others taking on 100kinmay and support each other through the month.

Registration for the event is FREE and there are no fundraising targets.
