Seeing challenges as opportunities, not threats is a key feature of The Door’s strategy. We ask the question – what will it take to make this happen? Rather than first thinking of the reasons why we can’t support the need.

A wonderful example of this is our brand new partnership with local GPs. We are delighted to be part of the new Youth Network commissioned by local Primary Care Networks. Our mentoring team will be providing just in time support for young people presenting at GP appointments with mental health issues.

Throughout the history of The Door ideas that were originally ‘invented’ to meet an immediate need have, over time blossomed into a core part of our work.

None more so than Mentoring Gateway (providing remote phone/video-based support).

The service has really come into its own during these past two years,  resulting in a truly robust method of support that we are extremely proud to offer. Not only serving us well in the pandemic, it is quickly becoming a vital part of our day to day delivery.

Having ‘proved’ this model, we have been confidently able to respond to needs beyond The Door. Such as those of two local Primary Care Networks.

It’s no surprise that as we emerge from the pandemic, young people are still struggling with their mental health.

Statutory services are being overwhelmed with demand for support. So these local PCNs reached out to The Door to provide a way forward. Looking to support GPs who urgently need a pathway to provide a much-needed lifeline to so many.

Mentoring Gateway was an obvious and ideal fit and we are pleased to be getting stuck in quickly. We will be providing this dedicated GP service at multiple practices across the district from June. In essence, GPs will now be able to ‘prescribe’ just in time mentoring to young people. Young people who would otherwise be stuck on waiting lists for many months to even be assessed for support.

It is humbling to see our provision yet again at the forefront of the local services. And testimony to the quality of our service, that we were chosen for this provision. Please do join us in prayer for the success of this new project.
