We asked our two new youthworkers to tell us a little bit about themselves as they embark on their new jobs as sessional youthworkers in our Cam and Dursley Centres
Kathleen
Hi I’m Kathleen one of the new sessional youthworkers for the Door in Cam and Dursley. I currently live in the town of Wotton-Under-Edge where I have previously worked as a Youthworker for South Gloucestershire Council. I haven’t worked with young people for a few years so I was thrilled to hear of an opportunity to be working with young people again. I have always had a passion for working with young people and my aim is to build relationships with the young people that use The Door’s centres so that I can help them grow as individuals and to encourage them.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity and looking forward to my future with the Door .”
Fun fact: Kathleen once entered The Door’s undiscovered youth contest and came third!
Francesca
Hello, I’m Francesca and I’m 23.
After I left school I worked as a beauty therapist and make-up artist but I felt there was something missing and decided I needed a career change.
I have always been interested in working with young people and through my own experience as a young person growing up in Dursley I felt I had a great understanding of the challenges that they may be facing and that I could do a lot to help.
Last September I started volunteering with Connectat which is a group for young people on the autistic spectrum. I have absolutely loved my time with the group and I continue to volunteer every Thursday.
Through Connectat I heard about The Door and applied to volunteer which I began in January.
After a few weeks the position of part time sessional youthworker in Cam & Dursley came up and I’m ever so grateful to have been offered a role.
I hope to be a positive role model for the young people and help them through the challenges they may face. I am over the moon to be part of the team and I’m excited to see where my journey with The Door will take me.
