Si heads for the hills
In at the deep end! Once Local man Si Lock, is preparing to take on over 90 miles of the West Highland way to raise funds for Stroud based Charity The Door.
What started as a way to get fit during lockdown has turned into a challenge of mighty proportions.
Si and friend Paul, who both volunteered for The Door in the past, will be tackling the West Highland Way. A 96 mile stretch of Scotland’s West Highlands. Starting on Tuesday 1s June at Milngavie (pronounced Mullguy) heading north of Glasgow, all the way to Fort William. Where they hope to arrive by tea time on Wednesday 9th June.
Si Says “I’m really looking forward to walking in God’s stunning creation. With the soundtrack provided by nature for most of the walk, plus the companionship with Paul throughout!
The Door is dear to my heart, having volunteered there a few years back, and seeing first-hand the impact they have, not just on young people’s lives, but their families too. This opened my eyes to how much needs to be done behind the scenes to make all this happen. So every penny raised is going to help them keep doing what they do.
I keep telling myself it’s ‘only’ 12 miles a day, but some of the terrain is quite rugged, and it’s very hilly! I’m sure the worst part, aside from finishing and having to leave the Highlands behind, will be the last day, where it’s a 15 mile hike
I know times have been tough for us all over the past year, and I completely understand money can be, and is tight for many of us right now. But every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference in keeping The Door open. Every little helps! So a massive thank you, in advance. To everyone who can contribute towards this amazing charity, no matter how big or small the contribution.”
