At the start of February Half Term, 2 youth workers and 14 young people bundled themselves, their luggage and their all-important snacks onto a minibus ready for a three-day adventure in the Welsh countryside at The Rock UK’s Summit Centre.

What lay ahead of them were jam-packed days with exciting activities from caving and climbing to high ropes and games. As well as some opportunities for quiet time, reflection and exploration of life’s big questions.

Young Person J said – ” I really enjoyed the summit trip, I feel it really got us to push ourselves and bond. My favourite activities were the caving and the climbing wall.

The caving got me to challenge myself when I had to crawl through water in tight crevices, the climbing also got me to challenge myself when I picked tricky routes on the climbing wall.

I also really enjoyed when we went on the evening walk on the second day. It helped me socialise with the other young people and I got the chance to appreciate the Welsh countryside.”

Young Person K said – “My best part of the trip was overcoming my fears of heights and socialising with new people I have never met before.”

Young Person M said – “I really enjoyed the first night when we all played a massive game of Among Us, it was really fun.”

Throughout the weekend the young people looked out for each other, built each other up and encouraged one another to take on challenges and face their fears, returning home with huge smiles on their faces ready for plenty of sleep!

The next illuminate trip will be to Satellites during the summer holidays – find out more by talking to your youthworkers.
