As with many charities and organisations across the country, the team at The Door have been marking Volunteers’ Week and I want to express my immense gratitude towards everyone who volunteers with us in whatever capacity.

I am continually surprised and honoured that so many choose to give up their time, often week in week out, to serve so many young people and families in need to and support the charity in so many ways; from shop assistants to mentors, youthworkers to fundraisers and everything in between. These acts of service are a powerful echo of Christ’s call to love and serve one another. As the apostle Peter reminds us: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others” (1 Peter 4:10). Our volunteers truly live this out, as they enable us to build hope, trust, and transformation in the lives of young people and their families.

Since we last celebrated this national week we are proud to have facilitated the formation of The Door’s Youth Voice Board. A dedicated team of volunteer young leaders representing their peers and helping shape the future of our work. Those we serve should have the strongest say in how we serve—and this board is a testament to that conviction. Why not read Reinette’s Story about what being on the board means to her.

And last but certainly not least, it’s also important to acknowledge the support of those that volunteer in those things unseen. Our recent office move needed people to give up their time to enable so many tasks to happen and to those who were so generous to do that – again a massive thank you.

Do take the time to read about what we’ve been doing to recognise our wonderful volunteers this Volunteers’ week across The Door’s website and Social Media.

And to all who serve and give up their time freely to support our cause in any way, thank you.
